| Adam Minoprio: Helmsman |
Adam Minoprio DOB: 19/6/85
I have been on boats for all of my life, started racing at the age of seven and have been racing almost every weekend since. From the age of ten I started competing at the top level for my age group in New Zealand, winning my first nationals at the age of 11, and competing at a world championships at the age of 12. After winning the Optimist nationals and getting second twice I went on to win the prestigious P Class Tanner Cup. After the single handed dinghies I got into sailing the 29er skiff and competed in the 29er worlds. From dinghy sailing I joined the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron’s Youth Training Program in 2002, completed 3 years and was top helmsman in my final year. In 2006 I graduated from the youth training program and did a year of bow on Georgia, a Farr 53, and then a season doing tactics on a Farr 40. Last season I did tactics for Ross Field on an Elliot 50. For the last two years I have been competing and coaching in match racing around Australasia and sailing in many different national classes. The past summer I was supposed to do the Sydney Rolex inshore series and the Sydney to Hobart on Maximus as Tactician but the boat broke on the delivery across the Tasman. I have completed the coursework requirements for a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Auckland, and will graduate on completion of practical work experience. My ISAF Sailor Classification is category 1 (amateur). |
